In their annual Digital Business Report, MIT and Deloitte survey analysis and executive interviews reveal the unique characteristics of innovation in digitally mature organizations. Ecosystems and cross-functional teams make them agile, but this increased agility also requires a thorough consideration of governance. For the past five years, MIT Sloan Management Review and Deloitte have been studying digital maturity, focusing on the organizational aspects of digital disruption rather than the technological aspects.
Our research on companies in early, developmental and mature stages of digital transformation found increasing signs of separation between mature and less mature organizations. This year's research found that these gaps can often be explained by companies' approaches to innovation: Digitally Job Function Email List mature companies not only innovate more, but they innovate differently. This innovation is driven in large part by collaborations built externally through digital ecosystems and internally through cross-functional teams.
